After reports stating that the Boston Red Sox could sell at the trade deadline, some have wondered if superstar Alex Bregman might be available. Bregman has continued to play at a very high level for the Red Sox after taking a deal he can opt out of at the end of the season, but he's currently on the IL.
The hope is for him to return sometime in the next month, allowing the Red Sox to potentially get back a decent haul for him at the deadline if they decide to move on.
It's important to remember that player option at the end of the year, and with the way he was playing, there's no debate that he's set to get paid. That could be in Boston, but if the team continues to struggle, it might be a tough sell.
Searching for a potential landing spot, Dylan Sanders recently proposed the idea of the Philadelphia Phillies trading for him. With the issues Alec Bohm has had at third base for the Phillies, making a play for Bregman makes sense.
“The Phillies are only growing more desperate for a World Series win as the players continue to age. Because of that, they can't risk this version of Bohm being what does all year long and in the playoffs.
“Adding another third baseman at the deadline seems like a must, and Bregman, if he gets put on the market, would be the best one available,” he wrote.
Bohm has been in trade rumors over the past year or so. He hasn't been great to begin the first part of the 2025 campaign, hitting .268 with five home runs.
Perhaps more concerning than anything, he only has nine walks. His walk numbers have been below average throughout his career, something that often gets exposed when it matters most in October.
