Shortstop Trea Turner is in his eleventh major-league season and third with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Turner spent his first seven big-league campaigns with the Washington Nationals before being dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the 2021 trade deadline. After two seasons in L.A., he signed an 11-year, $300 million contract with Philadelphia in December of 2022, locking him in through the 2033 season.
Through 88 games in 2025, the 32-year-old has continued to produce, batting .299 with 11 home runs and 22 stolen bases.
Turner was not surprised that he didn’t make this year’s All-Star roster given the National League’s abundance of talent at shortstop, but he was surprised by the snubs of teammates Cristopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez.
“I’m shocked about Sanchy,” Turner said. “Honestly, I couldn’t believe Sanchy didn’t get in. And then I thought Ranger had a real shot as well.”

Sanchez has put together an extraordinary season, posting a 7–2 record with a 2.68 ERA over 17 starts and compiling 108 strikeouts in just over 100 innings pitched. On Monday, he struck out eight and allowed just one run across seven innings in a loss to the San Francisco Giants.
Suarez, who earned an All-Star selection in 2024, has been equally impressive. He carries a 1.99 ERA through 12 starts, owns a 7–2 record and has struck out 73 hitters.
Although Turner, Sanchez and Suarez will sit out the All-Star Game, their combined excellence has driven the Phillies to a 53–38 record and first place in the NL East.
