The pitching staff of the Pittsburgh Pirates has been strong this season. They exerted their dominance last night on the road against the San Francisco Giants, surrendering two hits. It was Pittsburgh’s third time this season allowing two hits or fewer. No other ballclub has allowed two or fewer hits in a game in three different road ballparks in the same state in the same year.
The Pittsburgh Pirates also surrendered two hits in Anaheim on April 23 and two hits in San Diego on May 31. Will the team’s pitching staff keep making history this year?

It has been a disappointing season for the Pirates. They are in last place in the National League Central. The issue for the ballclub has been their offense. They are 28th in batting average, 30th in home runs, and 30th in runs scored. The Pittsburgh Pirates, unsurprisingly, have been unable to overcome a miserable offense.
Pittsburgh’s pitching staff has been far better. They are seventh in ERA, sixth in opposing batting average, and third in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Paul Skenes has anchored the staff. He is leading Major League Baseball in ERA, seventh in strikeouts, and third in WHIP. Closer David Bednar has also not blown a save in 2025.
Pittsburgh’s pitching staff will look to keep it going this afternoon in the final game of their series against the San Francisco Giants. If the team’s offense was not the worst in the league, they would be in the playoff picture. Instead, they are miles out of a playoff spot.
