The Pittsburgh Pirates wrap up their three-game series with the Chicago Cubs this afternoon. The Pirates dropped the first two games of the series to the Cubs. Ahead of today’s game, the Pirates activated right-handed pitcher Yohan Ramírez from the paternity list. To allow Ramírez to return, they optioned right-handed pitcher Cam Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ramírez this season in 19 games for the Pirates is 1-2 with a 5.90 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 29 innings. In 27 games at Triple-A he is 2-1 with seven saves, a 3.19 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in 31 innings. The Pirates are Ramírez’s eighth team in his six years in the big leagues.
Sanders, in six appearances, has posted an 8.10 ERA, a 2.10 WHIP, and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings. He pitched in Monday’s loss, going 1.2 innings, giving up a run on two hits. He walked one and didn’t record a strikeout. In 39 games between Double-A and Triple-A, he is 4-2 with 13 saves, a 2.20 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 60 strikeouts in 49 innings.
