It’s no secret that Pope Leo XIV has his love for Chicago sports teams. He’s a fan of all Chicago teams except the Cubs as he’s made it known his support is for the White Sox.
Recently, Pope Leo XIV joked with a few Cubs fans telling them “They lost!” after a fan yelled “Go Cubs!” during the MLB postseason. The moment went viral and showed just how fun the Cubs-White Sox rivalary is.
But now, Cubs fans are getting some revenge at least.
On a recent visit to the Vatican, the head of the Assyrian Church of the East, Mar Awa III, brought a special gift for Pope Leo XIV and it likely didn’t make him smile. Mar Awa III gifted him a Cubs jersey with “Leo 14” on the back. Check it out:

As you see above, Christopher Hale says “accidentally” and the reason for that is because Mar Awa III is from Chicago. And you guessed it, he’s a Cubs fan.
It’s all in good fun to see the back and forth with the Cubs-White Sox rivalry in the Vatican.
