With Raisel Iglesias testing free agency, one of the Braves’ non-negotiables this offseason is finding a closer.
That could still mean bringing Iglesias back. After a rough start to the season, he was lights out over the final four months, posting a microscopic 1.25 ERA across his final 45 appearances. But entering his age-36 season and coming off a campaign that began with a 6.75 ERA through his first 25 outings, his market is wildly unpredictable, as reflected in several contract projections.
Iglesias’ overall body of work since joining Atlanta certainly supports a significant deal. Over 166 appearances with the Braves, he’s recorded a 2.35 ERA, struck out nearly 10 batters per nine innings, and kept his WHIP below 1.00. Very few closers in baseball have matched that level of consistency over a four-year stretch.
It only takes one team to view those results as elite and push negotiations into the three-year range — a place the Braves might be hesitant to go.
Iglesias’ market likely lies in the middle of these two projections. It’s hard to see him getting a three-year dealing coming off a season in which he posted his worst ERA since 2019, even if a 3.21 mark is nothing to scoff at. Plus, his age will probably deter teams from getting into that range, which would guarantee him money through his age-38 season.
Raisel Iglesias Contract Prediction: 2 years, $30 million
