New York Mets minor leaguer Anthony Nunez has become quite the revelation for the organization. Nunez, who just started pitching professionally in 2024, has become lights out on the mound. While pitching for the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones, he has surrendered just one hit in 12.1 innings. He's given up no earned runs and struck out 20.

Still just 23 years old, he's already had a fascinating career arc. He made his professional debut in 2019 with the San Diego Padres Rookie League affiliate, but he was a hitter. He hit .222 with 11 RBIs and three stolen bases. After the 2020 season was canceled because of the pandemic, he hit just .208 in 26 games for the Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm in 2021.
At that point, he went to college and played three seasons at Tampa before resurfacing as a pitcher with New York. Though he's not listed among the team's Top 30 prospects, he could work his way into the organization's plans on the mound, especially as a back-end reliever.
At the big-league level, the Mets were rained out against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. The two teams will play again on Sunday as part of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium. First pitch of Game 1 will come at 1:15 p.m. ET while Game 2 will be played at 6:15 p.m.
The Mets enter play at 22-11 overall and in first place in the National League East. They got to the National League Championship Series a year ago.

Mets Unlikely to Trade for $56 Million Pitcher After New Report
The New York Mets are a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East ahead of Friday night's bout with the San Francisco Giants, but they are still one of the most vulnerable teams in baseball. New York has a laundry list of pitchers on the IL, including Tylor Megill (elbow), Griffin Canning (Achilles), and Max Kranick (flexor). However, it did acquire southpaw hurler Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. The veteran is 0-2 with a 3.96 ERA over 45 appearances this season, including 18 holds and one save. While the Mets could stand to add more healthy arms, they probably won't get a certain prominent hurler on the Miami Marlins, via The New York Post's Mike Puma. "The Mets are among the teams that have checked in on Sandy Alcantara," he reported on Friday. "The asking price is steep. The Mets haven’t ruled out adding a starting pitcher, but view it as a tough add given the market." Alcantara is 5-9 with a 6.66 ERA over 20 starts this season. The 29-year-old won the NL Cy Young Award in 2022 after going 14-9 with a 2.28 ERA in 32 starts. His current contract extension has a $21 million club option for 2027, and he's scheduled to make $17.3 million in both 2025 and 2026. Right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes (8-5, 3.48 ERA) will start for New York against San Francisco right-hander Logan Webb (9-7, 3.08 ERA) on Friday.
Cause of death revealed for Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan died on Thursday morning after a medical episode at his home in Florida, and reports have revealed the cause of death for the wrestling legend. According to audio from Pinellas County Fire and EMS that was obtained by TMZ, medical personnel were dispatched to Hogan’s home in Clearwater for a cardiac arrest at 9:51 a.m. Thursday. Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, was treated by first responders before being taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hogan was 71. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com was also told by sources that Hogan suffered a “massive cardiac arrest.” There had been rumors in recent months that Hogan underwent a significant heart procedure, though his representatives denied that. Longtime radio personality Bubba The Love Sponge Clem, who was once friends with Hogan, claimed on his radio show in June that Hulk was in the hospital dealing with some sort of life-threatening condition. A rep for Hogan said at the time that Hulk had been receiving medical treatment to address lingering neck and back issues but was doing well. Hogan was arguably the most famous professional wrestler of all time. His popularity in the 1980s led to the rapid growth of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which is now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. He was removed in 2015 over a scandal but reinstated again several years later. Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame a second time in 2020 as a member of the New World Order (NWO), which he joined in 1996 when he made a heel turn while wrestling in World Championship Wrestling (WCW). A six-time WWE Champion, Hogan remained a brand ambassador for the organization up until his death.
Sherrone Moore says Michigan will do away with controversial celebration
Michigan and Ohio State are sure to play another spirited game on the gridiron this season, but it sounds like there will be no flag planting afterward regardless of the outcome. Michigan won its fourth straight game against Ohio State last season, and the Wolverines' latest victory was the biggest upset the rivalry has seen in years. The eventual national champion Buckeyes were ranked No. 2 in the country when an unranked Michigan team went into Columbus and beat them, 13-10. A huge scrum broke out after the game when Michigan players stood on Ohio State's midfield logo and pretended to plant their flag in enemy territory. The brawl got so out of hand that stadium police wound up using pepper spray. While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said his players will not be partaking in any flag-planting activity going forward. "There will be no more flag planting. There will be no more grabbing the flag," Moore said. "We talked about our new tradition and what we do when we win a game is go beat the band, go sing our (fight song) and stay over there until the other team departs. That's how we'll operate — shake hands after the game, show sportsmanship, be cordial." While there has been no formal ban of flag planting, Ohio State coach Ryan Day also expressed opposition to the act after last year's incident. Ohio State and Michigan have one of the best rivalries in sports, so there is always going to be bad blood between the two programs. Moore and Day are doing what they can to make sure things don't get out of hand again the next time their teams meet.
Houston Rockets Will Benefit from this Brooklyn Nets Loss
One of the biggest stories that is going on in the NBA media realm is the future of Cam Thomas in a Brooklyn Nets uniform. Thomas, who is currently a restricted free agent, has seen his value fluctuate throughout the summer, but a recent offer from the Nets may have helped settle where his current value may stand. Brooklyn offered Thomas a two-year deal worth $14 million, according to NBA reporter Jake Fischer, and while it may be a decent offer, the 23-year-old guard believes he is worth more than that. “Cam Thomas thinks of himself as one of the most elite playmaking scorers in the NBA, and he wants to be compensated as such,” said Fischer. Because of the inability to strike a deal, fans and insiders around the league have begun to speculate that Cam Thomas could very well be on his way out of Brooklyn. But what does all this have to do with the Houston Rockets? Well, when James Harden was traded from Houston to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021, this gave the Rockets a 2026 first-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick swap with Houston. Brooklyn is coming off a 26-56 season, where they were a bottom-five team in the Eastern Conference last season. Now heading for yet another rebuild this upcoming season, fans may have to prepare for another lackluster year if they lose their leading scorer and spark plug, Cam Thomas. Houston is poised to have a stellar season this upcoming year so it is unlikely that the team falls anywhere near the top 15 selections, however if the Nets continue to fall down the rabbit hole of the Eastern Conference than the Rockets have a chance at either using the picks for more assets or even finding another player for the future in the respective draft classes.
