Decisions must be made as the MLB trade deadline comes next month, and there are a lot of questions surrounding what the Arizona Diamondbacks will end up doing.
There are glaring needs for this ball club if they want to contend in the playoffs this year, and it starts with their bullpen and closing pitcher role. Just last night, Shelby Miller gave up two home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to cost Arizona the victory. Miller has looked decent in a setup role this season, though has faulted at times as a closer. After injuries to A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez, the answer to this problem very well could be on another major league roster as of now.

Josh Naylor is one of the few members of the D-Backs who will be a free agent next season. Some have speculated that because Arizona has so many players entering free agency at the end of the season, that the D-Backs might need to move some pieces to get some back. Eugenio Suárez, Zac Gallen, and Merrill Kelly are all big names that other ball clubs have their eyes on, as they are unrestricted free agents in 2026 as well. It leaves the question of whether the Snakes will be buyers or sellers, and what deals will they make.
There still is a little ways to go until the MLB 2025 trade deadline, as July 31st at 6 p.m. ET will be the date to keep an eye on. As for now, the Diamondbacks seem to know what they want, now it’s a matter of being able to make it happen.
