Rafael Devers' Immediate Reaction After Trade From Red Sox to Giants

The Boston Red Sox stunned the MLB world on Sunday evening, trading three-time All-Star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. This trade, first reported by Robert Murray of Fansided, brings back multiple pieces for Boston.

Several reports have confirmed the Red Sox will be receiving Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs and Jose Bello in exchange for Devers. This trade comes with Devers in just the second year of his 10-year, $313.5 million contract.

Spending most of his nine-year MLB career at third base, Devers has primarily been Boston's designated hitter this season. It remains to be seen if San Francisco plans to use him in the field.

Devers debuted for Boston in 2017 when he was just 20 years old. He helped the Red Sox win a World Series in 2018, and stacked several individual accolades across nearly a decade. In addition to three All-Star appearances, Devers won two Silver Slugger awards and made an All-MLB team in 2021.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Devers' immediate reaction to this trade was a "happy" one.

San Francisco makes this trade while sitting just one game back of first place in the National League West division. At 41-30, San Francisco trails only the Los Angeles Dodgers. Adding Devers, who owns an .894 OPS this season, will undoubtedly strengthen San Francisco's push for a division title.

For Boston, this move brings back a collection players while removing a massive longterm financial commitment. The Red Sox own a 37-36 record that ranks third in the American League East standings.
