Rangers activate former closer Jose Leclerc from IL

On Thursday, the Texas Rangers activated former closer Jose Leclerc from the 60-day injured list.

Leclerc, 28, has been out of action for nearly two years with injury.

Plagued by a shoulder injury, the right-hander pitched in only two games in 2020. Leclerc earned a save in two appearances, striking out three of ten batters faced. Leclerc's shoulder issues remained during the offseason, ultimately leading to surgery. Leclerc underwent Tommy John surgery in March, missing the entire 2021 season.

Leclerc is in the final year of a four-year, $14.7 million contract extension signed with the Rangers in 2019. The deal includes club options for 2023 and 2024.

In five seasons with the Rangers, Leclerc is 6-10 with a 3.19 ERA, and 29 saves in 189 innings.
