Corey Seager has built a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable shortstops. Since joining the Texas Rangers in 2022, he has been at the center of their rise, including 2023’s World Series run and this season’s playoff push.

In 2025, Seager has once again been a difference-maker, hitting .271 with 21 home runs, 50 RBIs, and an .860 OPS despite missing time following an appendectomy. As the Rangers chase a postseason berth with just 13 games left, Seager’s production has remained crucial.

With all eyes set on Texas’ series against the Houston Astros, the team made a notable announcement regarding its star shortstop.

The Rangers announced Monday that Seager has been selected as their nominee for the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award.

The Roberto Clemente Award is one of Major League Baseball’s most prestigious honors. It is given annually to a player who demonstrates exceptional character, community involvement, and positive contributions to the game, named after the late Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, who was celebrated both for his play and humanitarian work.

“Congrats to @coreyseager_5 on being named our 2025 Roberto Clemente Award nominee! Vote Corey ️” the club wrote in its post.

Each team nominates one player, and the eventual winner is recognized league-wide for both on-field performance and impact off the field. Seager’s nomination comes in a season where he has been critical to Texas’ playoff hopes. Even after an appendectomy sidelined him for 10 days in late August, Seager returned and continued to hit at a high level, reinforcing his role as one of the Rangers’ most valuable players.

Rangers Face Crucial Test Against Astros

With 12 games left, Texas sits at 79-71 and remains in the thick of the postseason race. The Rangers, sitting at third, trail in the AL West but are still alive in both the division and Wild Card hunt.

The Rangers open a crucial series on the road against the Houston Astros (81-69), one that could shape their playoff path. Houston has consistently been a difficult opponent, but the Rangers hold a 6-4 record against their divisional rivals this season.

Now, with the team chasing ground in the standings, Seager is expected to be central to Texas’ approach at the plate. The Astros’ pitching staff presents challenges, but Seager’s track record in big games suggests he will again be counted on to spark the Rangers’ lineup as the playoff race heats up.
