Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom has had one of the best starting pitcher careers in MLB history. In 12 years in the majors, deGrom has a 96-65 record in 248 starts with a 2.57 ERA and a 5.37 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which is an all-time major-league record. These incredible statistics have led to five All-Star selections and two Cy Young Awards.
DeGrom's first nine seasons in the majors came with the New York Mets, and he has spent the past three years with the Rangers. His career has been riddled with injuries, most notably his two Tommy John surgeries to repair torn UCLs in his elbow.
From the 2020 season to the 2024 season, deGrom never made more than 15 appearances in a year, including last year, when he made just three starts for the Rangers.
Despite his struggles with injuries in previous seasons, deGrom was able to start 30 games for Texas in 2025 and was phenomenal. He had a 12-8 record in 172 2/3 innings with 185 strikeouts and 37 walks. He was named to the AL All-Star team after an impressive first half of the year.
On Thursday, deGrom's return to form was recognized at the MLB Awards show in Las Vegas, as he was named the AL Comeback Player of the Year.
"deComeback complete," the Rangers said on X.

The 37-year-old will enter the fourth year of his five-year, $185 million contract with the Rangers in 2026.
While he has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, there is no doubt Rangers fans are happy to see deGrom be dominant again this past season.
