Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who has been one of the best in baseball this season, tossed two shutout innings to start his night against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. However, the 35-year-old left the game after that with an injury.

Eovaldi entered the contest 4-3 with a 1.60 ERA and a MLB-best 0.79 WHIP. The two-time World Series champion also had the fourth-best ERA before his brief outing, which now shrinks it to 1.56.

Eovaldi was relieved by southpaw Jacob Katz, who tossed a scoreless third inning. The Rangers then announced their starter's ailment, via Foul Territory TV's Michael Bier.

"Nathan Eovaldi left tonight's game with right triceps fatigue, per the Rangers," he reported. "The move was precautionary and he's not expected to miss time."

With several months still left in the season, Texas elected to keep its red-hot hurler safe and avoid risk of further aggravation.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took Eovaldi in the 11th round of the 2008 MLB Draft. The right-hander made his big-league debut in August 2011 before they traded him to the Miami Marlins in July 2012.

The latter club traded Eovaldi to the New York Yankees in December 2014, where he pitched for two seasons. The two-time All-Star then signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays in February 2017.

The Rays traded Eovaldi to the Boston Red Sox in July 2018, who he won the World Series with that season. After that, the 6-foot-2-inch, 217-pounder signed with the Rangers in December 2022, and he won his second title with them in 2023.
