After another disappointing season, the Texas Rangers announced significant news about one of their top players.

Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reported Friday that Rangers’ shortstop Corey Seager underwent minor elbow surgery on Tuesday, adding that Seager should fully recover in time for full offseason activities.

Landry also reported that catcher Danny Jansen underwent a procedure to remove a bone growth in his right hand on Wednesday, and third baseman Josh Jung did not need surgery for his fractured right hand.

This news on Seager, however, is certainly significant, especially after Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young recently told reporters that the All-Star shortstop was dealing with a bone spur during the latter half of the season.

Seager spent multiple stints on the injured list this season for the Rangers, but did not miss any time due to his elbow injury. Seager’s multiple stints on the shelf were due to back inflammation and a seven-day concussion IL stint.

The 32-year-old played in 102 games this season for Texas, slashing .227/.312/.424 with 20 home runs, 51 RBI and an OPS of .736.

Seager’s elbow issue also didn’t seem to bother him, as he batted .269/.332/.472 with 10 homers after coming off the IL at the end of July with his aforementioned back injury.

The five-time All-Star is still under contract with the Rangers for five more seasons after signing a lucrative 10-year, $325 million deal before the 2022 campaign.

Seager and the Rangers had another disappointing season after falling a game short of the playoffs and a division title, finishing 80-82 in the AL West.
