Texas Rangers right-handed starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is in his 14th MLB season after making his big-league debut in 2011.

The 35-year-old veteran has played for six different organizations across his career, providing valuable innings at the frontline of the rotation.

His growth peaked with the Boston Red Sox at age 31, when he earned his first All-Star selection and helped Boston capture a World Series title.

Eovaldi joined Texas in 2023, where he added a second World Series championship and made his second All-Star team. This past offseason, the Rangers rewarded his consistency with a three-year, $75 million extension through 2027.

Eovaldi was scheduled to take the mound on Sunday Night Baseball against the American League’s top team, the Detroit Tigers, but was scratched before the game.

After Texas fell 2–1, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy announced that Eovaldi is day-to-day and that the club is taking a precautionary approach. He said, “The last thing we want him to do is push this and have a setback.”

Over 16 starts this season, Eovaldi has developed into a reliable second option behind ace Jacob deGrom, posting a 7–3 record, a stellar 1.58 ERA and 94 strikeouts.

The Rangers sit at .500 (50–50) and trail the final AL Wild Card spot by 3.5 games, entering a particularly critical stretch. A few more losses could prompt the front office to consider trading valuable roster assets at the deadline, making every upcoming matchup crucial for Texas’s playoff hopes.
