Rangers Make Major Wyatt Langford Decision

The Texas Rangers are finally getting their star outfielder back into their lineup.

The Rangers are activating outfielder Wyatt Langford from the injured list after he missed more than a month with a Grade 1 right forearm flexor strain. Texas is also activating star shortstop Corey Seager from the injured list.

In a corresponding move, the team designated Sam Haggerty for assignment.

Langford last appeared in a game on April 21 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He left in his second at-bat after feeling tightness in his forearm following a swing.

Before the injury, Langford was off to a slow start. He slashed .238/.274/.363 with a .637 OPS, one home run, and three stolen bases over 80 at-bats.

However, the 24-year-old was starting to heat up before landing on the injured list, making the timing even tougher. Over his final 10 games, Langford went 13-for-39, good for a .333 batting average.

Langford likely would have returned sooner, but he also dealt with a quadriceps issue during his rehab assignment.

Unfortunately, injuries have become a recurring problem for Langford since making his debut with Texas in 2024. He has played exactly 134 games in each of the last two seasons.

The injuries have made it difficult for him to find consistency and fully tap into the potential that made him the fourth overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Even with the setbacks, Langford still put together a 20/20 season last year. He finished with 22 home runs, 22 stolen bases, 25 doubles, and 73 runs scored while slashing .241/.344/.431 with a .775 OPS.

The return of both Langford and Seager comes at a perfect time as the Rangers have started to build momentum. Texas had won five straight games before its streak ended Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

With one of the American League's best pitching staffs and now a healthier lineup, the Rangers have all the pieces to make a run at the AL West title. They currently sit 2.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners.

Langford and Seager are both expected to return to the lineup for Friday night's series opener against the Cleveland Guardians at 7:15 p.m. CT.
