The Texas Rangers welcomed Wyatt Langford back to the active roster Thursday, activating the outfielder from the 10-day injured list before their series finale against the Los Angeles Angels. To make room on the 26-man roster, Texas optioned infielder Josh Smith to Triple-A Round Rock.

The 24-year-old missed nine games after suffering a left hamstring strain while running to second base during a June 26 game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Langford did not require a minor league rehab assignment, allowing the Rangers to activate him directly after completing his recovery.

Before landing on the injured list, Langford had been one of Texas's most productive hitters. Through 40 games this season, he was slashing .278/.324/.500 with an .824 OPS, eight home runs, 20 RBIs, 45 hits and six stolen bases. He also carried the Rangers' longest active on-base streak at 10 games into his return.

Smith heads back to Round Rock after appearing in 40 games for Texas this season. He batted .230 with eight RBIs while spending most of his time at second base. The versatile infielder also saw action at first base, third base, left field and designated hitter, giving the Rangers valuable depth during Langford's absence.

The roster move reflects the club's need to clear space for Langford rather than a permanent change for Smith. Texas now regains one of its top offensive contributors as it looks to finish the first half on a strong note.

Langford's return adds another middle-of-the-order bat capable of contributing with both power and speed. His presence also strengthens the Rangers defensively in the outfield after a brief absence.

With Langford back in the lineup, Texas enters the series finale against the Angels with one of its key offensive pieces available again while Smith remains ready in Triple-A if another opportunity arises.
