Rangers Make Pitching Decision Amid AL Wild Card Race

The Texas Rangers have had an up and down 2026 season, but despite being two games below.500, they find themselves very alive in the American League Wild Card Race.

The Rangers are 71-73, sitting just a game and a half back of the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final Wild Card spot.

The team starts a critical series with the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, and has appeared to switch up their pitching plans as they open a six-game road trip against two teams still fighting.

Right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill will start for the Rangers on Tuesday, changed originally from Wednesday, in order to allow him to make two starts on the trip.

Quantrill has emerged as the Rangers’ rotation backbone since moving from the bullpen.

On the season, he is pitching to a 2.79 ERA with 73 strikeouts and 24 walks across 96 2/3 innings in 29 games (12 starts).

Cody Bradford has been moved to Wednesday. The lefty is posting a 4.45 ERA with 16 strikeouts and seven walks in 30 1/3 innings.

This is the last time the Rangers will play the Mariners in the 2026 season, and they are looking to crush their playoff hopes once and for all.
