Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi Scratched From Start

This is far from good news for the Texas Rangers, who are 19-21 on the season, but only two games back of the Athletics in the American League West.

Rangers right-handed starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was scratched from his start on Monday due to left side tightness, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.

Any type of side tightness is never a good sign for a player due to the fact that it could be an oblique injury. The severity of Eovaldi's side tightness is currently unknown, but he is likely headed for further testing.

If Eovaldi's injury is an oblique issue, he would be forced to go on the 15-day IL.

In the meantime, the Rangers will go with Jakob Junis as their opener in a bullpen game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday.

Texas will be hoping that Eovaldi doesn't have to miss significant time, but that remains to be seen until the team determines the severity of his injury.

Eovaldi has produced a 2-0 record and 0.60 ERA in his last two starts combined, going a total of 15 innings.

Eovaldi, 36, has posted a 4-4 record and 4.15 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in eight starts (47.2 innings) pitched this season. The veteran hurler has been an anchor in the Rangers' starting rotation since joining the ballclub back in 2023.

The Rangers will aim to get back to .500 and above as they wrap up their long homestand with a three-game series versus the Diamondbacks this week.
