Rangers OF Eli White possibly out until September with fractured wrist

The Texas Rangers improved to 28-31 on the season via Sunday's 8-6 win over the Chicago White Sox in extra innings but experienced an unfortunate and costly loss in the process.

According to the Rangers' official website and an ESPN update, center fielder Eli White has been placed on the 10-day injured list because of a fractured right wrist. White, a solid contributor in the outfield, suffered the setback when he collided with teammate Charlie Culberson while tracking a ball in the bottom of the 11th inning of Sunday's victory:

In a corresponding roster move, Texas recalled outfielder Leody Taveras from Triple-A Round Rock.

According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, White will participate in zero baseball activities for roughly six weeks. The 27-year-old could be sidelined through the start of September:

"I was going to the ball, and then I lost it in the sun," Culberson explained about the accident. "It never came out of the sun. There was no way for me to block the sun and see the ball. Before I knew it, Eli was attempting to catch the ball, as well. It happened quick."

White was hitting .200 with three home runs and 10 RBI on the season before the injury. Judging by Grant's update, it sounds as if White could remain out of action through the end of the campaign.

Texas began Monday trailing the first-place Houston Astros by 8.5 games in the American League West standings. Those two teams will begin a series at the Rangers on Monday night.
