Rangers vs Phillies: The Texas Rangers will start the 2026 MLB season on the road with a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park starting on Thursday. Both teams have made a trip to the World Series in the past five years.
The Rangers claimed their maiden World Series triumph with their remarkable run in 2022. However, they did not even make the playoffs in the two seasons following it. They ended the year in third spot in the American League West with an 81-81 record.

The Phillies, meanwhile, made their fourth straight postseason appearance last year. They also defended their National League East title with a 96-66 record. But the team suffered heartbreak in the playoffs yet again, with their championship aspirations remaining unfulfilled.
Nathan Eovaldi will start on the mound for the Texas Rangers on Opening Day. The 35-year-old right-hander was a leading contender for the AL Cy Young Award last season before he was shut down due to shoulder inflammation. Eovaldi was dominating at the time, posting 130.0 innings in 22 starts with an 11-3 record, a 1.73 ERA, and 0.854 WHIP.
Cristopher Sanchez is the Opening Day starter for the Philadelphia Phillies after signing a new deal with the team last week. The 29-year-old southpaw was the runner-up for the NL Cy Young Award last year after leading the MLB with 8.0 bWAR. He notched 202.1 innings from 32 starts, finishing on a 13-5 record with a 2.50 ERA and 212 strikeouts.

Offensive production was arguably the biggest weakness for the Texas Rangers in 2025. Corey Seager was excellent, and Wyatt Langford had a breakthrough year, but the rest of the lineup was mostly below average. The Rangers’ fans hope the veteran additions of Brandon Nimmo and Andrew McCutchen can provide that spark for the team.
On the other hand, the Philadelphia Phillies have one of the strongest lineups in the entire MLB. They ranked among the top five in the NL for runs per game, extra-base hits, and home runs, besides leading in hits and average. Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Kyle Schwarber are the big hitters at the top, while rookie Justin Crawford could become a key performer down their lineup.
Score Prediction: Rangers 3, Phillies 6
