Walk-up music is a first introduction for some fans to a player, so it's important for players to pick songs that not only hype them up, but also represent them as they step into the box or enter the game to pitch.
With another MLB season getting into swing, Royals players have debuted new songs for the Kauffman Stadium DJ to introduce them to. I attended a game during Kansas City's opening weekend and observed the songs and entrances.
Here's my list of the best ones in KC this season:
Honorable Mentions: Way of the Triune God (Jubilee Version) by Tyler Childers - Michael Lorenzen and 'My Own Worst Enemy by Lit' - Kris Bubic
Both of these songs are really interesting in my opinion, and I decided to include them for fun. I wasn't going to, but the songs are fitting for both of these guys to walk out to on bump-day. In addition, these songs are quite popular, something I think is really important for starters to have with their walk-up songs.
5. For Whom The Bell Tolls (Remastered) by Metallica - Seth Lugo
I might get some heat for where this song ranks but I believe I have some pretty valid reasoning. If this song was used by a reliever, it would likely be way lower on my list but Lugo is a starter and it doesn't get the fans fired up the same. If they wanted to make it better, the Royals could lean into it and make Lugo's entrance a bigger deal. Yordano Ventura used to enter to Welcome to the Jungle and it was great because everyone knew it was his and they played into it. KC could benefit from doing the same with Lugo.
4. Sing for the Moment by Eminem - Michael Massey
Theres some bias here because I really like Dream On by Aerosmith but I think Massey's choice is strong. This song does a good job of getting the people going and Eminem is always a fan favorite, especially in Kansas City. The chorus of the song is a good mix of both Eminem and Aerosmith, making it work great as a walk-up tune.
3. Calling My Spirit by Kodak Black - Cavan Biggio
It's not the only Kodak song that a Royal is using this season either, since Vinnie Pasquantino is using Transportin' as well. This song is up here primarily because it is something that plays really well at Kauffman. While some songs are quiet and soft, this one isn't. It just works at the stadium and for the player.
2. War Pigs by Black Sabbath - John Schreiber
This song is a phenomenal choice by Schreiber. When he entered at the game I attended, I noticed the song immediately and so did the people around me. It's a classic reliever entrance song that not a lot of pitchers use now. It gets the people going and is perfect for Schreiber.
1. Change Me by BigXthaPlug - Bobby Witt Jr.
This song is fantastically produced and just fits Bobby as his walk-up song. The song is by a fellow Dallas-native and talks about how the singer has stuck to who he is and where he came from, which fits Junior well. The song with its catchy chorus and combined with the anticipation of the MVP candidate coming to the plate makes this walk-up the best at the ballpark.
