Rays Receive Promising Shane McClanahan Development Amid Athletics Series

Despite a plethora of pitching injuries, the Tampa Bay Rays continue to roll coming out of the Trade Deadline. The team is currently riding a seven-game win streak going into their series against the Athletics.

Tuesday revealed some more good news for the Rays that may push the team back to full strength shortly.

Left-handed pitcher Shane McClanahan has been our for the team and on the 15-day injured list since July 31st with left mid-back tightness. The 29-year-old who missed all of the 2024 and 2025 seasons once again landed on the injured list.

But things seem to be looking up for the southpaw, as the Triple-A Durham Bulls announced that the two-time All-Star would be beginning a minor league rehab assignment with them.

McClanahan has been a huge piece of the Rays' starting rotation this season.

In 20 starts, he is pitching to a 3.09 ERA with 91 strikeouts, 35 walks and a 9-6 record across 99 innings.

He has bounced back nicely from his Tommy John Surgery and other set backs.

The Rays will be happy to get him back, as their rotation reinforcement in Freddy Peralta (who was acquired from the Mets at the Trade Deadline) has struggled mightily since joining the team.

There will be more updates on when McClanahan will return for the team this week, as his 15 days are up on Friday, August 14.
