Yoshinobu Yamamoto turned in a quality start but Teoscar Hernández failed to make multiple catches in right field and the Los Angeles Dodgers had their three-game winning streak snapped in a 4-3 walk-off loss to the Colorado Rockies in the series opener at Coors Field.

Yamamoto allowed three runs over seven innings in the Dodgers’ loss. He entered the night 3-0 with a 3.32 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies. Included in that was throwing five scoreless innings at Coors Field on June 25.

Yamamoto began his start by retiring the first six batters faced before running into some trouble and bad luck. A leadoff walk led to two runners in scoring position when Brenton Doyle’s fly ball to right field dropped in front of Teoscar Hernández.

Ryan Ritter then beat the shift for a game-tying two-run single.

The Dodgers had jumped ahead thanks to Dalton Rushing’s sacrifice fly and Shohei Ohtani’s RBI single in the second inning. Alex Freeland later pinch-hit for Miguel Rojas and broke the tie with a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning.

However, Yamamoto failed to protect another lead as his string of 13 batters retired in a row was snapped by Ezequiel Tovar’s solo home run. That made Tovar a career 7-for-10 with one double and two home runs against Yamamoto.

Justin Wrobleski entered in the ninth inning and was hurt by Hernández failing to make a running catch in right field. The one-out double was immediately cashed in by Warming Bernabel hitting a chopper that got through the infield for a walk-off RBI single.

Dodgers had winning streak vs. Rockies

The Dodgers entered play having won 10 games in a row against the rockies, which was their second-longest streak in franchise history. They had a 12-game winning streak against the Rockies from Sept. 9, 2018-June 27, 2019.
