The 2026 Futures Game took over Philadelphia, meaning many of the top prospects from across the game weren’t with their affiliates over the weekend. Nonetheless, there were notable standouts from the Minors this past week outside of the big game in Philly.
The next generation of baseball took the stage in Philadelphia as part of the 2026 Futures Game. The AL Futures team defeated the NL, 6-1.
Futures Game MVP, Rays catcher Nathan Flewelling, hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning and gave the AL side a 4-1 lead. On the NL side, Brewers prospect Jesús Made drove in the lone run via an RBI groundout.
Athletics infielder Leo De Vries stole two bases.
Kade Anderson and Liam Doyle, two pitchers taken in the top ten of the 2025 MLB Draft, each threw scoreless innings for their respective teams.
Pirates prospect Seth Hernandez struck out two over one inning and brought the heat.
Two Major Leaguers in the Minors led the full-season ranks in terms of home runs this week.
Diamondbacks infielder Tyler Locklear hit five home runs for Triple-A Reno this past week. Patrick Wisdom, playing for the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate in Reno, also hit five home runs to tie Locklear.
The Dodgers have been careful with 2025 first-rounder Zach Root, who’s been among the best swing-and-miss pitchers in High-A this season. This past week, the former Razorbacks right-hander continued to roll in Great Lakes.
Root struck out 11 over six scoreless innings this past week, which pushed his season strikeout total to 69 over 49 innings for the Loons.
