Recently DFA’d Erick Fedde should interest Braves

The Atlanta Braves are going to sell over the next week, as their focus shifts to 2026 and beyond. However, there is one area where they have no choice but to add to some degree.

The rotation has been ravaged by injuries. AJ Smith-Shawver is out for the season. Reynaldo Lopez doesn’t look like he’s coming back.  Chris Sale might return, but probably shouldn’t, and the same can be said for Spencer Schwellenbach. As it currently stands, four of the Braves top arms are on the 60-day IL, which is really taxing what’s about to become an even thinner bullpen after the trade deadline.

The Braves just need more arms that can eat up innings, and one recently became available after being designated for assignment by the Cardinals.

Erick Fedde had a career resurgence in 2024 after playing ball in Korea the year prior, starting in 31 games and recording a 3.30 ERA. However, 2025 hasn’t been nearly as kind. In 20 starts, he owns a 5.20 ERA with a 5.09 FIP and is striking out just 5.6 batters per nine innings.

Fedde has been an average to below average starter for most of his career. But he’s at least a major-league arm, and if you squint hard enough, you’ll see a glimmer of upside, which is just icing on the cake for Atlanta at this point. I would not be shocked at all if he’s wearing a Braves uniform in a few days.
