The Boston Red Sox pulled out a thriller at Fenway Park on Tuesday night, edging the Cleveland Guardians 11-7 to improve to 78-62 on the season.
Boston jumped out to a 5-1 lead early, but the Guardians stormed back with six runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 advantage. The Red Sox answered in the bottom of the eighth, plating four runs to secure the win.
But the night’s biggest storyline came when top prospect — and potential future face of the franchise — Roman Anthony exited the game after his third at-bat with an apparent oblique injury.
After striking out, Anthony immediately grabbed his side in discomfort while walking toward the dugout.
Manager Alex Cora confirmed afterward that Anthony will undergo an MRI on Wednesday, leaving his status for the series finale in doubt.
“Left oblique tightness. He’ll have an MRI tomorrow, so we’ll know more during the day… he’s sore,” Cora said.
When asked if the injury was related to the back tightness Anthony has dealt with recently, Cora replied: “I don’t know.”

Anthony, called up on June 9, has quickly made his mark in the majors and already cemented himself as the Red Sox’s leadoff hitter. Entering Tuesday night, the 21-year-old rising star was batting .291 with 74 hits, eight home runs, 48 runs scored, 31 RBIs, and four stolen bases.
“Felt it today on the check swing — it was before I swung and missed for the strikeout,” Anthony said postgame. When asked about his level of concern, he admitted, “I’m not really sure. I’ll see tomorrow after the MRI.”
