Red Sox All-Star Jarren Duran Linked to Mets as Potential Trade Target

The Boston Red Sox, even with the team sitting in a postseason spot, could look to move on from one of their outfielders. A crowded outfield could be used to help land a quality starting pitcher.

While there aren't any contenders with starters up for grabs, the Red Sox could work a deal out creatively. And according to comments from ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney, the Red Sox have a potential trade partner in the New York Mets.

"The Mets will track the center-field options closely, with that position being the most obvious spot to upgrade." Olney wrote. "Is Boston's Jarren Duran actually Available? These are questions to be answered in the Mets' front office."

The Mets and the Red Sox could link up on a deal for Duran, but Craig Breslow and the Boston front office will be looking for a starting pitcher.

Unfortunately for the Mets, not only do they not have a good option to trade, but their rotation is also one dealing with some uncertainty. Though with the return of Sean Manaea, that issue is somewhat resolved.

But if they were to move on from one starter, their rotation would take a hit, and would need to be addressed after their deal with Boston for Duran. The fit between the two teams doesn't make a ton of sense.

It's not too dissimilar to the Red Sox-San Diego Padres potential trade. Boston needs to add a starter, and Duran, or an outfielder, would be a huge help in landing such a player.

While the Mets may try to land Duran, the assets they have might not align with what the Red Sox are looking for.

This connection is one to monitor, but the two sides would need to get creative, potentially involving a third team, to make a deal work for both sides as they each look to contend this season.
