Red Sox Announce Roster Move After Curtis Mead Trade

Mead joins Boston after producing one of the best offensive seasons of his professional career. The 25-year-old is batting .254 with a .352 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage, adding 17 home runs, 48 RBIs and an .852 OPS across 87 games this season.

His ability to play multiple infield positions gives manager Chad Tracy another flexible option as Boston strengthens its roster before the trade deadline.

The Red Sox sent Early to Washington to complete the deal. The left-hander made 17 starts this season, posting a 7-5 record with a 3.44 ERA and 93 strikeouts over 91.2 innings before landing on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation.

Tsung-Che Cheng, meanwhile, heads back to Worcester after appearing in 14 games for Boston, where he hit .256 with five RBIs in 39 at-bats.

Boston made the move while remaining firmly in the American League Wild Card race. Adding Mead gives the lineup another productive right-handed hitter while providing valuable infield depth for the stretch run.

The organization is also betting that Mead's strong offensive production can translate to the major league level as it looks to strengthen its roster for the final two months of the regular season.
