Red Sox CBO Chaim Bloom discusses Rafael Devers' contract status

Rafael Devers is in the midst of another monster season, perhaps his best one yet. The 25-year-old third baseman is also potentially in his final days in a Boston Red Sox uniform, as he seeks a contract extension from the only MLB club he's known.

It was reported in mid-April that the Red Sox had offered Devers a new deal worth approximately $200 million , but the 2021 All-Star was looking for something over $300 million. Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom discussed the topic again on Thursday morning.

Devers currently leads all MLB hitters in hits (85) and total bases (158), while pacing the American League in doubles with 23. Devers made his first All-Star team last season and grabbed his first Silver Slugger Award after posting a career-high 38 home runs.

The man at the hot corner isn't the only Red Sox infielder looking to lock in with a long-term deal, as fellow All-Star Xander Bogaerts has also struggled to find common ground on a new contract with the club. In April, when talking about the duo of standouts, Bloom said that extension talks haven't "aligned" with either Bogaerts or Devers.

Like the third baseman, Bogaerts is having yet another big year on offense, currently recording what would be career highs in batting average (.335) and on-base percentage (.401).
