The Boston Red Sox seem to be leaning towards the potential of younger prospects after trading away franchise star Rafael Devers.
As they bring in a group of young pitchers in Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, Jose Bello and 2024 first-round outfielder James Tibbs III in the trade that has blown up the MLB in recent days, a new generation of the Red Sox are taking over in Boston.
The Red Sox are still attempting to stay competitive in the playoff race and will look to appear in the postseason for the first time since 2021.
It sounds like the trade deadline frenzy could only be beginning for the Red Sox as well, and one of Boston's best closers has emerged in trade rumors.
Seven-time All-Star and in his first year with the Red Sox, closing pitcher Aroldis Chapman has entered trade talks.
Chapman has dominantly begun the 2025 season after a couple of struggling seasons in years past.
In 33 appearances for the Red Sox this season, Chapman has a 1.50 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP while striking out 42 batters in 30.0 innings pitched.
One team that's believed to be looking for a closer and continues to excel this season are the Philadelphia Phillies.
According to FanSided's Matt Grazel, "Aroldis Chapman would solve the Phillies' needĀ for another left-handed reliever they could use in high-leverage situations following the suspension of Jose Alvarado."
Jose Alvarado won't be eligible to compete during the playoffs because of his suspension, and the Phillies don't have an eligible bullpen pitcher on the roster who has a season ERA lower than Taijuan Walker's (3.54 ERA).
While still just rumors, the Boston Red Sox could be only starting their trade frenzy before the trade deadline comes up on July 31, and the Philadelphia Phillies could be a club that would be interested in taking calls.
