Red Sox Expected to Make Blockbuster Deals After Cutting Ties With Rafael Devers' Contract

By trading Rafael Devers, the Boston Red Sox put themselves in a decent position to make a big move in the future.

The Red Sox front office and ownership have proven that they're willing to spend money, but not having to pay Devers the remaining $250 million of his contract certainly plays a factor here.

When recently examining what the Red Sox might do with this money, play-by-play announcer Will Fleming made some bold predictions about what Boston might do.

He added that with this money the Red Sox now have, it's possible that they could get creative on the free agency market as early as this winter or look to make a blockbuster trade or two.

"This is the show where I make predictions," Flemming said. "But absolutely, there is every intention to make huge moves coming up in the next month or so. I really believe that. I've been right about a lot of this before and I'm right about it again."

"Look at the people that he makes huge bids on," Flemming said. "Juan Soto, Garrett Crochet. Younger players with a lot of runway left. I think you just look at the young people in the game who might be expendable or tradeable for teams that are losing, and I think they're going to be aggressive on all of those people."

It'll be interesting to see who the Red Sox go after over the next few months.

They'll have an opportunity to add at the trade deadline if they wish, and also a chance to improve in the offseason.

It doesn't seem likely that the Red Sox will win a World Series this year, but if they make the right decisions at the deadline, who knows?
