Red Sox Fan Favorite David Ortiz Takes Another Shot at Rafael Devers

Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz’s crusade to expose Rafael Devers continued on Saturday. Following the shocking trade, Ortis has been staunchly in the team’s corner, posting multiple times on social media defending the decision by chief baseball officer Craig Breslow to ship the three-time All-Star across the country. One sticking point for Ortiz has been Devers’ lack of response to his text messages – leading to a fractured relationship.

During his latest Instagram Live, Ortiz shared the texts he sent to Devers in March amidst the former Red Sox slugger’s frustration with the organization due to a forced position change. Ortiz even showed a missed video message that Devers never answered.

Speaking to his two million followers, he also addressed the notion that the Red Sox disrespected Devers.

“The Red Sox didn't disrespect Devers. He disrespected himself. He comes to Spring Training out of shape and being the third baseman with the worst defense. They sign a Gold Glover [Alex Bregman], and he won't accept another position”.

It is the third time Ortiz has spoken out against Devers since the trade. Meanwhile, Devers has yet to address Ortiz publicly and has never directly spoken derogatory about his former team.

In his introductory press conference with the San Francisco Giants, Devers thanked the Red Sox and their fans for supporting him through the first nine years of his career but stated, “I’m moving forward from that situation.”

While much has been revealed about Devers feeling “lied to and betrayed” by the organization during the spring leading to their breakup, he has left the Red Sox in the past. Yet, Ortiz continues to prolong the situation and deface a legacy, including a World Series Championship, Devers intended to leave behind.

Before a three-game series against Boston, Devers said, “It’s been a long time.…I feel happy. I’m relaxed now,” when asked when was the last time he was this happy. If only Ortiz could feel the same.
