The Boston Red Sox would likely love to take back some of the trades they've made in recent years.
From Mookie Betts to Rafael Devers to Chris Sale and others, the Red Sox haven't exactly done a great job on the trade front. However, moving on from Sale had its benefits at the time.
While he was still very good in Boston, it was tough to justify the injuries he was dealing with.
He was traded to the Atlanta Braves in a deal that included Vaughn Grissom as the main prize, and he’s since excelled in Atlanta at the highest level.
Sale won the NL Cy Young Award last season and looks great again this year.
Some have suggested that the Braves could move on from him, given how poorly they’ve played throughout the year, and it was possible that the Red Sox could’ve gotten involved.
However, according to a report for Robert Murray, it isn't likely that Atlanta will trade any player who has control beyond this season.
Sale, who has a team option after the year, he fits that description.
“With contenders searching for starting pitching, one name to cross off the list: Braves ace Chris Sale. Atlanta has not discussed Sale and will not consider moving the left-hander or any player under control beyond 2025, per sources,” he wrote.
Sale has dealt with some injuries in Atlanta and is currently dealing with one, but it's also something the Red Sox might be able to turn a blind eye to.
Ultimately, if he were to come to Boston and continue to throw the baseball like he has with the Braves, Atlanta would arguably be giving up one of the top five starters in baseball.
