The Boston Red Sox lost Wilyer Abreu to injury, and while it was a tough blow to the team, it coincided with the number one prospect in baseball, Roman Anthony, getting the call-up to the big leagues.
Abreu's injury wasn't the big news that night, but still, a little over a week later, the Red Sox got good news on his return to the MLB roster. In a post on Twitter/X from Underdog MLB, Abreu has started a rehab assignment in Triple-A as he works back from an oblique issue.

Abreu is batting second for the Worcester Red Sox and is slotted in as a designated hitter in his first action since going on the injured list. It's great news for the Red Sox and Abreu, as he's closing in on returning to the big league roster.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora initially said Abreu could be ready for the team's weekend series against the San Francisco Giants. That timeline now becomes a lot more interesting, as the Giants series is now one of the most highly anticipated series in the Red Sox season.
Rafael Devers is in San Francisco, and the Red Sox could be getting the player who will take over at designated hitter back off the injured list amid the team's trip out west.
Abreu is batting .245 on the season with 13 home runs and 51 hits. He's also scored 28 runs, has eight doubles, and has knocked in 32 RBIs in his 2025 season. He's accumulated 1.7 WAR and is on pace to break a lot of his single-season records offensively from one year ago.
Boston getting their Gold Glove right fielder back will be a huge boost to the team's defense and offense. Abreu is closing in on a return, and he could make his return when the team faces Devers for the first time since the controversial trade.
