Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz has a very close relationship with Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and in a recent interview gave his opinion on the negotiations while seeming to slip up and announce the latter's asking price.
Blue Jays fans were crushed to find out a couple days ago that the team was unable to sign Guerrero to an extension, which according to GM Ross Atkins, would have made him the highest-paid Blue Jays player of all-time.
MLB insider Jeff Passan was recently on the Blair & Barker show in which he stated that Guerrero turned down a lot of money but he did not have specifics on exactly how much he did reject.
During a recent interview, Red Sox legend David Ortiz, who is also very close with Guerrero, stated that the contract he was looking for was around $585 million over 13 years, which Ortiz believes he deserves.
Regarding the contract
@27VladdyJr
it will be "13 years for 585 MM dollars"All the details at: https://youtu.be/3JsQALRo5i8
If the Blue Jays were to agree on this type of deal, they would have been paying Guerrero $45 million per season for the next 13 years, which is a ton of money without question.
While this is a massive contract, the wild part is that he will likely land something similar next offseason when he is a free agent.
