Red Sox Legend David Ortiz Speaks Out on Rafael Devers: 'You Finally Took My Advice'

The Rafael Devers trade, and the drama surrounding it, has been all the talk in the MLB world for the last few days. Now, an MLB hall of famer and Boston Red Sox legend is speaking out.

David Ortiz is respected as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history and his relationship with Devers has been well publicized since the latter joined the Red Sox. After all, Devers and Ortiz are both natives of the Dominican Republic and were both superstars within the Red Sox organization.

According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, this is what Ortiz had to say after Devers' press conference with the San Francisco Giants:

"It's great that you finally took my advice. This game is about that, knowing what we can control and who makes the decisions. Good luck with everything that comes next. I've always trusted you," Ortiz reportedly said.

The message is a bit cryptic, making it difficult to interpret exactly what Ortiz means by saying "you finally took my advice" after the press conference.

It could be that Devers took Ortiz's advice of switching positions and playing first base (like the Giants asked him to do). The timing would imply that, but because a prior conversation being referenced that the public is not privy to it is hard to discern what exactly is meant by the quote.

It is safe to say that Ortiz clearly still has love for the now much-maligned former Red Sox superstar, having served as a mentor for Devers during his time in Boston. It will be interesting to see if Ortiz, who is an MLB studio analyst for FOX Sports, makes any more comments publicly about the trade in the near future.
