Veteran third baseman Alex Bregman is in his tenth major-league season and first as a member of the Boston Red Sox, bringing veteran leadership to Fenway Park.

The 31-year-old previously spent his last nine seasons with the Houston Astros after they selected him second overall in the 2015 MLB Draft.

Bregman flourished in Houston, earning two All-Star selections and two World Series championships in 2017 and 2022. His best season came in 2019, when he led the majors in walks, showcasing elite plate discipline and finishing second in AL MVP voting.

His contributions earned him a three-year, $120 million contract with the Red Sox this past offseason. The contract includes opt-out clauses after both the 2025 and 2026 seasons, giving Bregman flexibility to test free agency again.

Earlier this season, on May 24, Bregman sustained a right quadriceps strain that landed him on the injured list.

After a 5-4 win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, the Red Sox optioned Kristian Campbell and David Hamilton, clearing roster spots so that Alex Bregman and Hunter Dobbins can return tomorrow.

Bregman dominated when he was healthy in 2025. Over 51 games, he posted a .299 batting average, a .938 OPS, hit 11 home runs and recorded 35 RBIs.

The Red Sox are surging as of late in a crowded division and currently sit at 50-45, now occupying the third American League wild-card spot with their superstar third baseman’s activation imminent.

With the All-Star break approaching, the Red Sox—now back at full strength—are primed to ride their surge of momentum into the season’s most critical stretch.
