With the arrival of the MLB's trade deadline day, there are still a handful of expected moves out there.
One huge trade reportedly in the works involves the Boston Red Sox attempting to make a move for San Diego Padres pitcher Dylan Cease. According to insider Francys Romero, the Red Sox are viewed as being "in the mix" for a right-hander who has twice finished in the top five in Cy Young Award voting.
Cease seems to be the victim of some of the worst luck in the MLB this season as he is fifth in the MLB in strikeouts with 153, and is tied for No. 34 in terms of opponents' batting average with hitters hitting just .244 off him. However, his 3-10 record and 4.79 ERA don't exactly scream tremendous season.
Regardless of the latter two numbers, teams like the Red Sox are likely more enticed by the fact that he strikes out batters at a high clip.
Early Thursday morning, the Red Sox made a move that saw them send promising infield prospect Blaze Jordan to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for lefty reliever Steven Matz.
While a trade is yet to happen, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan reported that there is a 25% chance that outfielder Jarren Duran will be traded.
ESPN also has the Red Sox as contenders to trade for the following players:
With the Red Sox holding on to the No. 2 spot in the AL wild-card race, they are clearly looking to solidify their chances to make a run into the playoffs.
The 2025 MLB Trade Deadline is at 6 p.m. ET Thursday
The only players who can be moved after the deadline are players in the minors or players who are not on 40-man rosters.
Needless to say, there will be plenty of movement throughout Thursday.
