Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Provides Injury Updates to Three Major Contributors

The Boston Red Sox are off to a 9-10 start as they approach the 20 games played mark, and the team is starting to get some slight injury relief after being hampered by them early on.

Boston's catcher Connor Wong is out indefinitely with a pinky fracture, and the Red Sox made a reactionary move to that by bringing in Yasmani Grandal on a minor league deal

In a MassLive.com piece by Christopher Smith, here is what manager Alex Cora had to say about Wong:

“Progressing, feeling better. Actually, he was able to do some catching drills today, so that’s a positive,”.

Cora also made a note on Masataka Yoshida, who started the season on the Injured List with a torn labrum and is currently rehabbing down in Fort Myers. The Red Sox skipper said Yoshida is not close to a rehab assignment but is up to throwing from a long distance and working on live at-bats.

Another name to keep an eye on is starter Kutter Crawford, who was also placed on the IL to start the season. Cora had this to say about where he's at in progression to the big-league club:

“I don’t know where we’re at as far as like what’s the next step,” Cora said. “But obviously nothing close to being back with us.”

Crawford is just in the bullpen stage of his rehab and is unlikely to return soon. Boston has had trouble with its rotation to start the year and could afford for the inning eaters of the rotation in Crawford and Brayan Bello to return sooner rather than later. Richard Fitts was also sent to the IL this week.
