Red Sox Move on From Jarren Duran in Strange Trade Idea With Astros

The Boston Red Sox organization needs to call it what it is. This is a .500 ball club and has been for much of the past year and a half. Until things change, there isn't anything to suggest that the Red Sox are much better than they’ve played.

It's a strange and unfortunate situation.

On paper, the Red Sox are much better than they're currently playing, but it's tough to ignore at this point. As a result, there will likely have to be a trade made at the deadline if Boston wants to improve its roster.

Some have suggested that the Red Sox could get creative at the deadline, and that's exactly what they’d do in a proposed trade idea from Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. His trade proposal would move on from either Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu for Isaac Paredes of the Houston Astros.

“The Astros are in dire need of lefthanded hitters to create better lineup balance. General manager Dana Brown has said the team is willing to discuss trades at this point of the season. Houston likely wants more of a platoon player. But maybe Brown would be willing to make a more significant trade for Wilyer Abreu (a former Astros prospect) or Jarren Duran. Isaac Paredes, a right-handed-hitting infielder with 40 career starts at first base, would be a good fit for the Red Sox

“Whether it’s Houston or another club, the Red Sox could find a healthy market for Abreu, Duran or Ceddanne Rafaela given the lack of outfielders in the upcoming free agent class outside of Kyle Tucker,” he wrote.

The Red Sox need help at first base, but moving on from Duran or Abreu at this stage might not make much sense.

If anything, perhaps the Red Sox should look toward the 2025-26 offseason and go from there.
