Whether the Boston Red Sox are looking to buy or sell at the deadline, there could be multiple players they look to trade. Perhaps the Red Sox do a little bit of buying and a little bit of selling, something that could make sense for this organization given where it currently stands.
One potential option who could be traded is Rob Refsnyder, an outfielder who also has some experience playing in the infield during his big league career.
A 10-year veteran, Refsnyder has impressed for parts of his career. He’s swung the bat at a high level during the 2025 campaign, hitting .304 with a 162 OPS+.
And according to ESPN Insider Jeff Passan, there's a scenario where the Red Sox could cut ties with him in a potential deal at the deadline.
"The Red Sox shouldn't be under .500. Regardless of the wounds -- both external and self-inflicted -- they are replete with enough talent to secure an AL playoff spot. If the ugliness continues, though, turning an eye toward 2026 is on the table," Passan wrote.
"They've got an attractive array of players. Outfielder Rob Refsnyder has an OPS 36% above league average over the past two seasons and punishes left-handed pitching."
Moving on from Refsnyder wouldn't be the worst idea, as teams will be looking for a right-handed bat who can hit left-handed pitching at the trade deadline.
If the Red Sox could get back a decent prospect or two, there's reason to believe they should make that type of trade.
However, if Boston doesn't get what it is looking for, it might be better to keep him on the bench. He's proven that he can hit against left-handed pitching, something that's valuable in the league.
