Three weeks ago, nobody would've believed that the Boston Red Sox would have any chance at making a run toward an AL wild-card spot.
A hot stretch has turned that into a real possibility, but an injury announcement on Thursday is yet another bump in the road.
Suarez left his most recent start on July 5 after just 2 2/3 innings and only 53 pitches. According to an announcement from the team prior to Thursday's game, Suarez is headed to the 15-day injured list with a left groin strain.
In a corresponding move, the Red Sox recalled an extra bench player in Brett Harris for Thursday's game. Boston will need to make another roster move for a pitcher prior to its weekend series against the New York Mets.
The #RedSox today placed LHP Ranger Suarez on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to July 6) with a left groin strain. To fill his spot, Boston recalled INF Brett Harris from Triple-A Worcester.

Suarez had been excellent in June. He went 2-0 with a 2.10 ERA and 35 strikeouts across five starts and 30 innings pitched.
Suarez has allowed three or fewer runs in six straight outings and in 10 of his last 12 after a rocky start to the season.
Along with Sonny Gray at the top of the rotation, it will have to be Peyton Tolle and Jake Bennett that continue to be strong on the mound for Boston.
If the staff can keep the Red Sox in contention, a returning Suarez could be huge for a potential postseason push in August and September.
