"Nasty Nate" has been on the injured list due to a lower back issue for just over one month and made a rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. Eovaldi is 4-2 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 72 strikeouts over 68 1/3 innings pitched covering 12 starts this season.
The 32-year-old made his first All-Star team in 2021, finishing the year 11-9 with a 3.75 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 195 strikeouts across 182 1/3 innings pitched in 32 starts.
The Red Sox (47-43) enter the three-game weekend road series against the Yankees (62-27) tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for third place in the AL East. Both Boston and Toronto trail New York by 15.5 games.
