Red Sox Surge Back Into Playoff Picture With 11-Game Winning Streak

The Boston Red Sox entered play just a few weeks ago at 37-48 and appeared to be headed toward selling at the upcoming MLB trade deadline.

Instead, Boston has caught fire.

The Red Sox have won 11 consecutive games to improve to 48-48. The winning streak is the club’s longest since 2016, and with Friday night’s victory, Boston returned to the .500 mark for the first time since March 28, when it opened the season 1-1.

The recent surge has also moved the Red Sox into the third and final American League Wild Card spot, potentially shifting the organization’s focus from selling to buying at the trade deadline.

Boston has pieced together its winning streak despite dealing with several key injuries. Garrett Crochet remains sidelined with left shoulder inflammation, though he has made significant progress and has no timetable to resume throwing. Ranger Suárez, who was named an All-Star, is out with a groin strain after suffering the injury about a week before the All-Star break. Connelly Early continues to recover from left elbow inflammation and recently sought a second medical opinion. Roman Anthony is rehabbing at the club’s spring training complex in Florida after partially tearing a tendon in his right ring finger and is expected to see a hand specialist in Atlanta before returning to live game action.

If the Red Sox can get healthy while adding reinforcements at the trade deadline, they could quickly become a dangerous team down the stretch.

In my opinion, Boston is one of the teams to watch coming out of the All-Star break. If this roster gets healthy and the front office adds to its current core, the Red Sox have the talent to make a legitimate run in October.
