Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene transferred his rehab assignment to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday as he continues working back from right elbow surgery.
Greene has not appeared in a big-league game this season after undergoing a procedure on March 11 to remove bone chips and bone spurs from his right elbow. The surgery came after he experienced discomfort during his lone spring training appearance on February 28, ending any chance of an Opening Day return.
It was a frustrating development for a pitcher who entered the year as one of the more promising arms in the National League. Without Greene, Cincinnati's rotation has suffered as a result.
Greene initially began his rehab assignment June 18 with the ACL Reds in Arizona. In that outing, he threw four scoreless innings, struck out six batters and reached 54 pitches while topping out at 101.1 mph.
The velocity alone was an encouraging sign for a pitcher coming back from an elbow procedure. The move to Louisville represents the next step forward in his progression back toward getting back to the big leagues.

Greene missed significant time during the 2025 season as well, when multiple groin strains limited him to 19 starts. Despite that, he remained one of the better arms in the National League when healthy, and the Reds are counting on him to fill that role again once he returns.
His career numbers when available have been electric, and at just 25 years old, the ceiling remains as high as ever.
The Reds entered Tuesday with a 37-39 record, sitting in fifth place in the National League Central. Cincinnati has used a mix of young starters and depth arms to get through the season while Greene has been sidelined.
Right-hander Chase Burns has been the standout, providing stability at the top of the rotation with a 2.00 ERA through 15 starts. Getting Greene back healthy would give the Reds two legitimate front-of-the-rotation arms, something very few teams in the NL Central can match.
Greene remains one of the organization's most important rotation pieces when healthy. Louisville will now serve as his next assignment as the Reds evaluate his readiness for a return.
His activation timeline will depend on continued progress in his rehab outings, including his workload, command and how his elbow responds between starts. If all goes well, a second-half return is very much in play.
