Rhett Lowder started for the Dayton Dragons on Sunday in the High-A Midwest League. He is recovering from a right elbow strain.
He pitched three innings in his last outing in the Arizona Complex League. According to Reds’ general manager, Brad Meador, the plan was for Lowder to pitch four innings against Great Lakes.
He pitched just three innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits. He walked one and struck out five. Lowder threw 63 pitches, 45 for strikes.
The Reds' first-round choice in the 2023 draft out of Wake Forest logged six innings in rehab assignments with a 9.00 ERA.
Lowder was 2-2 in six starts last season for Cincinnati with a 1.77 ERA in 30 ⅔ innings.
The Reds placed RHP Ian Gibaut on a rehab assignment Sunday morning. LHP Sam Moll pitched in seven games and is close to returning.
Veteran Wade Miley started for Dayton on Saturday. He paused his rehab with a groin injury but is back. He pitched 2 ⅔ innings, allowing three runs on three hits, including two home runs, but struck out six against Great Lakes.
Chase Burns, the Reds' top pick out of Wake Forest in the 2024 draft, continues to throw well for Chattanooga. He has pitched in three games, allowing three earned runs on 14 hits and two walks in 14 innings. He is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
