The Cincinnati Reds are set to begin a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. Before the series, the Reds shared an important injury update. Left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson was sent to Double-A for a rehab assignment, the team announced on Tuesday.

Ferguson signed a contract with the Reds this past offseason. The 29-year-old left-hander was set to play a crucial role in the bullpen. However, Ferguson suffered an oblique injury before the season. The southpaw is continuing to work his way back from the injury. He will likely make multiple appearances before joining the Reds.

In 2025, Ferguson pitched to a 3.58 ERA between his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners. He has pitched at the MLB level since 2018 and has spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and Houston Astros in addition to the Pirates and Mariners. Ferguson has yet to make his Reds debut, but Cincinnati is hopeful that will change sooner rather than later.

The Reds have played well in 2026 despite dealing with a number of injuries. They lead the National League Central heading into Tuesday’s game. Cincinnati is currently 1.5 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs for first place in the division with an 18-10 overall record.

The Reds will look to continue playing well in their upcoming series against the Rockies in Cincinnati this week. The game on Tuesday night is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST.

Updates on Caleb Ferguson’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
