CINCINNATI — Former Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez has found his next home for the 2026 season, heading from the desert to the Pacific Northwest and now back to the Queen City.

According to MLB insider Jeff Passan, the former Diamondback has signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Cincinnati Reds that includes a mutual option for 2027. Pending a physical, Suárez reunites with the organization where he hit 189 home runs over seven seasons and earned his first All-Star selection in 2018.

Passan also reports that Cincinnati plans to use Suárez primarily for his power at the plate rather than as a full-time third baseman. This represents a strategic move by the Reds, allowing them to maximize his slugging ability while keeping third base open for stronger defensive options.

Suárez enjoyed a career year in 2025, splitting time between the Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners after a midseason trade. He hit 49 home runs and drove in 118 runs, providing middle-of-the-order power for both clubs — something Cincinnati will look to capitalize on after struggling to produce runs consistently.

Arizona will not have a reunion with “Geno,” the nickname Suárez embraced during his time with the club. Instead, the Diamondbacks made a statement with their trade for All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado, signaling that Suárez was no longer part of their long-term plans. With increased offensive depth and Gold Glove-caliber defense at third base, there was no clear path for Suárez to remain in the mix.

While both sides have officially moved on, Suárez’s time in the Valley will not be forgotten, nor will the excitement he brought during his brief stint with the Diamondbacks.
