Report: Astros land Tony Perezchica as 3B coach

The Astros are set to hire Tony Perezchica as their third-base coach to replace Gary Pettis, who was not retained after 10 seasons with the club, the Arizona Republic reported.

Perezchica was the Diamondbacks' third-base coach for eight seasons under manager Torey Lovullo, while also serving as the club's infield instructor.

Before joining the coaching staff, he served served in Arizona's organization for 14 seasons in various roles.

Perezchica, 58, played in 69 major league games over four seasons for the San Francisco Giants (1988, 1990-91) and Cleveland Indians (1991-92). He was a .228 hitter with five RBI over 101 at-bats.
